Desalinators, by definition, therefore, the most efficient .
As a matter of fact, the most cost effective desalinators.
Outstanding build in pure polished stainless steel.
Safety Use it by hand in a liferaft.
Water powered on passage, hand powered in an emergency or liferaft, optional DC motor powered at anchor.

Numerous manufacturers claim that their desalinators are the most efficient.
These claims may have been accurate in the past.....
Desalination of sea water is an energy intensive process. Until the advent of Waterlog water powered desalinators there used to be two options available:-
1/ Direct engine driven pump or:
2/ Battery powered pump.
In either case, the power had to come from the engine. Due to the amount of power needed by desalinators, it is not a realistic proposition to drive them by wind or water generators, nor is it usually possible to use photovoltaic "solar panels" unless the vessel has an impractically large array.

Desalinators / watermakers and the ships battery bank......

A waterlog does not need any of this.........
Desalinators driven by battery ("watermakers") can pull very high Amperage from the battery bank, and bearing in mind that it is normally unwise to use more than about 30% of a lead/acid battery capacity without recharging, in practice it is prudent, or perhaps necessary, to run the engine while making water.
Many desalinators draw 7 to 25 Amp Hours and more. If we wished to make, say, 20 gallons and the desalinator were to produce 3 gallons per hour, that requires about 80 Amp Hours. Assuming a battery bank capacity of 300 A.H., that would imply that the battery bank needs recharging again without delay.

The advantage of battery driven desalinators is that they are easier and less costly to install than engine driven units, although in theory they are much less energy efficient. For every 100 units of power produced by the engine alternator, by the time it is put into the battery, then taken out to drive the desalinator pump motor with the attendant mechanical and heat losses, the end efficiency will be about 33% or less for many battery driven desalinators.
There are some units available that are more efficient, using energy recovery mechanisms, however, unfortunately they are very much more expensive and complex to maintain.
